Summer in Berlin: Fun activities during Corona Summer in Berlin: Fun activities during Corona.
Berlin is a great city throughout the whole year but during the summer it gets just a little bit more awesome.
The people have a better mood, the parks are full and because of the Spree and many lakes there are plenty of great spots to go swimming.
[h]If you get the chance to enjoy the summer in Berlin[/h]
make sure to try at least a few of the fun activities in this article.
All of them are corona-proof by the way.
Summer during Corona.
It’s been a weird year so far: Because of Corona the summer in Berlin started off slower than usual.
People were forced to stay home and the city was deserted for quite some time.
Lucky enough most limitations were loosened up a bit in June: You are allowed to meet up to 5 other people again, sport-courts are opening up and slowly more and more activities in Berlin are allowed again.
1.
Picknick in the park.
[h]A great thing about Berlin is that you are allowed to drink in public[/h]
Many other capital-cities in Europe do not allow this and that’s a pretty big limitation when it comes to having a fun afternoon in the park.
During Corona you are not allowed to have a barbecue in the open but you can of course have a nice picknick with friends.
Just bring some nice tapas, drinks and chips and you will have a great time.
Keep these rules in mind though.
No summer in Berlin without a Barbeque (© Berlin-enjoy.com) Some of our favourite parks in Berlin are the Mauerpark, Volkspark Friedrichshain and Treptower Park.
[h]Especially the last one is huge and directly connected to the water of the Spree[/h]
This enables you to combine this first activity with renting a raft on the spree (see below).
Summer in Berlin during Corona: Meeting other people.
The three most important rules for activities during corona are: You are allowed to meet up with one other household (independent of the amount of members).
You are allowed to meet up with 4 other people of other households.
Always keep 1,5 Meter distance to other people (outside of your own household).
2.
Chilling on the Spree.
[h]It is obviously a great addition for a city like Berlin[/h]
that the Spree is floating straight through the city.
The nice terraces at the water, the beautiful sights and the chance to dive in when it gets very hot.
A small disadvantage of the summer in Berlin can be that it gets quite crowded at hotspots close to the water.
To solve this issue you can always decide to actually float on the water.
Renting a raft or a waterbike is fun and quite affordable too.
[h]Rent a waterbike in Berlin (© Berlin-enjoy.com) Rent a waterbike or raft[/h]
Renting a waterbike is an activity you can do for just a few hours.
There are plenty of spots to rent a waterbike and one of the most local ones is Treptower Park.
Renting a waterbike for one hour costs 15€ which is a good price if you ask us.
If you want to be on the water the whole day you can also rent a raft.
Here you will pay about 100-150€ for a day but you can share the raft with several people.
The rafts are equipped with comfortable chairs and a barbecue so this is a great and relaxing activity for the summer in Berlin.
Info: Swimming in the Spree.
Most people say it is not a good idea to swim in the Spree.
The water is not very clean but so far I never had a problem.
I would not recommend to swallow the water but just swimming is done by quite a few people.
[h]One thing to keep in mind is that the water gets dirtier if you go further west in Berlin[/h]
[h]More waste will be added to the water after the city of Berlin (The stream is going west)[/h]
3.
Playing Beachvolleyball.
If you want to enjoy the summer and get some color at the same time, make sure you play some sports.
Due to Corona it was not allowed for many weeks but since the 15th of May many sports are allowed again.
Beachvolleyball is one of them and is one of the coolest sports during the summer.
It’s great that most people know how to play this sport at least a bit and afterwards you can drink a beer with your feet in the sand.
What else do you need to be happy in the summer.
Beachvolleyabal Berlin A great summer activity It should not come as a surprise that Berlin has plenty of beachvolleyball-courts to offer.
All over town you can find places which offer this activity with varying prices, courts and locations.
Obviously it is easy to choose one which is close to your home/hostel.
But you can also choose one with the best bar to have a drink afterwards.
If you want to compare the courts you can read about our five favourite beachvolleyball-courts in Berlin.
4.
Visit the beach.
In this article we already mentioned that you can go for a swim in the Spree but if you really want to enjoy some water you should visit the beach or a lake.
[h]There are plenty of places to enjoy some water in the summer of Berlin[/h]
You could visit Badeschiff, although this is quite touristic already.
Therefore it might be a better idea to visit the Muggelsee or the Wannsee.
Enjoy the summer at the Wannsee (© Berlin-enjoy.com) The Wannsee can be reached very easily from stations like Alexanderplatz, Ostkreuz and Warschauer Straße.
Just take the S-Bahn which leads you directly to Wannsee.
From that station you can walk to the beach.
You have to pay 5 euro entrance but will have a great afternoon at the water.
[h]Swimming is still one of the best things when it is a warm summer-day in Berlin[/h]

Previews, Reviews, Contact & My Views.
ois passionate about boardgames and always happy, if game designers/ creators/ publishers so wish to consider ofor any reviewing, previewing, Kickstarter reviews, playtesting or dissecting of any tabletop board/card game that is…or, indeed, are… a multi-player game with a good solo variant.
Co-operative games (especially with adaptations to improve solo play).
or games aimed purely at solitaire gamers.
…or in fact any board or card game for that matter!.
…there will always be an honest opinion given, be it positive or not so, even if occasionally delivered in a less than conventional manner, but always constructive with criticism.
I strive to give an in depth look at gow a game feels and plays, with a great focus on gaming experience more than a “how to play”.
Costs/charges/fees: I review on a volontary basis without charge because I feel paid reviews may have an unbiased slant to the opinions given.
If you have a game that you think you would like  oto review, please feel free to contact me (Giles Pound at Both Sides of My Table) Although I ask for no fee, if I was expected to send on a game to another reviewer, I would ask for such postage to be covered.
Timescale: This is very much dependant on the size and complexity of a game…and how full a schedule there is, but on receipt of a game I would aim to play (many times to get a real feel for a game) and review within 7-14 days.
ocan always be reached by e-mail on [email protected] or via direct message on Twitter https://twitter.com/BSoMT_2018 and via the o facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BSoMT.2018/ Cheers Giles If you would like to help support the BSoMT website, please feel free to buy me a coffee at or pop over to.

Jake Van Niekerk 13/06/2018 at 16:24 Hi there, I have an idea to change a bit of wording.
“Communal Solitaire” instead of “Cooperatively Solitaire” is shorter.
Liked by Reply 13/06/2018 at 17:58 Thank you for the suggestion…I see what you are saying but my initial idea was that Cooperatively Solitaire was set up to look at cooperative games and how well they work with just one solitaire player operating all components…or those coops games that alter game play for one … Like Reply.

Kino-Dokumentarfilm über deutschen Real-Madrid-Star „KROOS“.
26.
August 2020 Am Sonntag, den 06.
September 2020 zeigt das ZDF den Kino-Dokumentarfilm „KROOS“ von Regisseur Manfred Oldenburg um 23:30 Uhr.
Weltmeister.
[h]Viermaliger Champions-League-Sieger[/h]
Man spürt, .

#2solo…of Air and Sea (Crete ‘41).
…of Aire and Sea ( Crete ‘41).
[h]#2solo…of Air and Sea (Crete ‘41)[/h]
[h]I fancied a break from the dreary British winter; wet[/h]
windy, grey, grotty, miserable…almost indistinguishable from our Summer, really.
I felt like getting away to some exotic island bathed in glorious sunshine so I taped the plastic globe to a ceiling light fitting, set it slowly to a clockwise spin and closed my eyes as I threw a dart at it.
My ingenious method of picking a random destination.
After several attempts, several minor ornament repairs and a puncture repair on my inflatable arm chair, I decided to throw the dart with my eyes open.
Success.
[h]The hand-sized arrow embedded itself firmly in Crete[/h]
the compulsory Crete 1941 blah blah So Crete here I come…how little I expected that I would end up at Retimo Airfield in 1941 in the hight of Operation Mercury which was particularly fortuitous as I had recently brought Crete 1941 Operation Mercury to the table.
I was a touch taken aback by this little affair.
[h]Published in World at War magazine by Decision Publishing[/h]
designed by Joseph Miranda, it may not be so widely discussed.
I had not heard about it until I stumbled across Stuka Joe’s Youtube play-through and though…hmmmm an interesting war-game that is specifically designed for the soloist…I’ll have a portion of that, thank you very much,.,,and interestingly played from the German/Axis perspective against the game who attempts to keep us at bay with its Allied forces.
This is a more impromptu set of ramblings as, after just a couple of games, I was rather taken by the game.so much so that I felt compelled to put pen to paper…or to be more accurate: finger to keyboard.
In simple terms this is a scenario that pits you, the real player, the soloist, heading the might of the German war machine trying to force out the Allied forces from Crete.
I was going to try and avoid referencing the stereotypical view Brits have of Germans always putting towels down to reserve sun-loungers but in trying to avoid the cliché, I have inadvertently put my size 10 right in it.
[h]I digress…The game controls the Allied forces by means of a selection of tables[/h]
charts and devilish AI cunning (in the form of random, hidden unit selection and the accursed die roll) I remodelled the map, removing numerous charts to accommodate/reduce the game’s footprint…quite a big original map.
There is something pleasantly refreshing about this game.
The table isn’t bogged down with a bazillion microscopic counters, ladened with innumerable statistics only visible to the naked eye with the use of powerful electronic image enhancing microscopes.
Stats are simple.
Left number = fisticuffs, right number = well, apart from aircraft, there is no other number.
That’s it.
Roll below the counter’s attack number and Kaboom…sometimes we must refer to the occasional Kaboom table for certain results but in the terms of a greengrocer with small onions…that’s shallot.
Boooooaaaaaaaring.
I hear you so eloquently eject.
Ha.
but not so, I tell you.
Staging areas on the map form a large part of the map/game-board where the Axis side store counters, move counters about and allocate/re-allocate units to attack, sea-landing, airdrop or make packed lunches.
Each of these staging areas corresponds to a region of Crete and so Axis units are deployed accordingly.
This is not as straight forward as it first appears.
In simplicity terms, yes it is, but in strategy…what a toughie.
All Allied units start unidentified (having random location/placement)  and only through reconnaissance, air or ground assault do we know what we are likely to be up against.
And that is such a nice element of this as a solo game.
We really don’t know what we are up against until the final minute…then we have to plan like crazy to minimise the ensuing chaos.
Locations on the map, although lacking in bistros, cafes or the occasional pie shops, have an elegant simplicity too.
None of your billion 1cm hexes numbered from 12,458 to 32,765 etc.
Each location has a name, a region and a box for unit placement.
Proximity is indicated by a coloured line and movement is simply between regions (although movement is not quite so important here…no flanking manoeuvres, areas of control, being in supply or stopping off for an over priced, dried up sandwhich on a motorway service station) There are a significant number of steps to take whilst playing the game…19 in total, which does sound daunting but in reality they are logical straight forward steps governing how the whole game mechanic works.
Methodically working your way through each step really does act like paracetamol and take away the headache of managing your resources and managing the AI and moving everything all at once and on and on…so much potentially to forget in normal war-games but here it is all covered nicely And StukaJoe on BGg has even produced a set of 19 poker sized cards that make following the gameplay even easier.
Genius So, is this any good.
I’ve rambled on at some length and not stuck to my normal format but it is safe to say that a holiday in Crete is not complete without Crete 41.
With a well presented game-board, simple, clear counters, only a 19-ish page rule book, easy to follow charts & tables…well it all makes for a very tidy package.
I have found this such an interesting approach to war-games with its company/battalion/regiment operational scale… …but in my last game in just turn one I suffered such ludicrous damages to my air units that I nearly cried It is tactical but not bogged down in complicated layers of modifiers some games employ.
I have enjoyed the game experience and would recommend this to soloist, war-gamers or otherwise…although it is not so easy to come by.
Although I’ve not stuck to my normal format, I will still award this an invasive BSo 1d8 die roll of (7) There is a lot more going on here and I merely scratched the surface but interested parties should definitely check out StukaJoe’s play-through on Youtube: The files for the cards by Stuka Joe can be found here on BGG: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/13539...s-and-list World At War website: http://www.worldatwarmagazine.com/waw/ (Disclaimer: I remodelled the map to allow me to reduce its size and relocate the numerous charts originally on the map on to separate sheet).
